With this lens, you really get a 180 degree, I confirm this. The bad point is that it don’t have attachment for filters on it, so you can’t add, for example, a simple UV filter to protect it’s glass. Maybe its because if it could, it would result on loss of angle.I have a standard 18-55 lens on my pentax, and if adjusted to 35mm it already result in 180 degree of view. If positioned to less than 35 there is no gain of angle, you only get black corners. In overall I really recomend this product.

A Good Start, April 5, 2009

A fisheye can lend itself to some really unique ways of looking at things. I was really excited to get one. So excited that I couldn’t wait to save up for a $600 fisheye lens. I ordered this attachment with the understanding that it is a temporary thing until I can practically invest in a real fisheye lens.I’ve been pleasantly surprised with it though. It is very easy to attach to my Nikon 52mm 18-55 lens. I tried attaching it to my 70-300mm lens but the fisheye effect decreases as the zoom increases–the fisheye effect is almost nothing at 100mm focal length, so this attachment will be just for my 18-55mm lens. At 18mm focal length, I can see nearly 180 degrees. Things at the edges are very distorted of course, but its fun to be able to see my feet when I point the camera straight ahead.I ordered it specifically to photograph a theater production. I had mixed results. In the low light of the theater, I had a hard time getting a clear photo, so I had to turn my ISO up–which I don’t like to do, as it makes for a slightly noisier photo. The effect is cool though and I could get some angles of the stage that I couldn’t get with a normal lens, so in all, I was happy with the results. The macro uses are very good though. I’ve only done some test shots, but I can’t wait to try some more.

I got this lens so I could take some fisheye sunset/landscape shots, but the low quality of the glass makes me wish I hadn’t. Any shots including the sun reflect (no pun intended) the low quality of the glass (speckles, etc). Yes, I cleaned it. Yes, I keep the caps on it until I’m ready to use it. First time out in the field I was so disappointed I haven’t put it back on my camera yet. I suppose it’s decent for indoor shots, but you’ll need plenty of light.
